We could possibly agree, though the bureaucratic impossibility in Bride Wars immediately makes it silly.

Don’t you judge me. We’re never going to agree on this anyway. You’re lucky I didn’t comment on your post about Warm Bodies.

I suppose stranger things have happened. It’s certainly not one of my favorite films, but it is a guilty pleasure. Basically if I stumble across it on HBO or Showtime, I will sit there and watch it in its entirety.

Is this a stellar movie with brilliant acting and a riveting plot? No. It’s a bit on the silly side and more than a little predictable. But the acting isn’t horrible and it definitely has its funny moments. And, to be fair, Bride Wars is very much a chick flick…and you, sir, are not a chick. :)

You have two female leads at opposite ends of the personality spectrum; one is strong-willed and attention hungry, and the other is basically a walking doormat, unwilling to cause any conflict for most of her life. They represent extremes of very real female stereotypes, and female members of the audience can instantly connect with at least one of them. The dynamic of their friendship is also very common among close female friends. Women, no matter how supportive they can be of one another, are competitive by nature. You add in the stress of planning two dream weddings (come on, you’ve heard of bridezillas – even the best of us succumb) and you have a relatable, if silly, plot. But it’s a light-hearted comedy, so silly is allowed. Most girls are raised dreaming of their wedding; their one special day when they get to be the princess…when it’s about them. It may be a sad commentary on how girls are pre-conditioned and influenced since birth to conform to certain gender roles, but it is what it is. I consider myself to be a feminist and even I’m not immune to it. So even though you ask “why?” and question the logic behind it, many women will watch this movie with a smile of understanding and be entertained.

I can’t believe you would defend Bridewars either — especially here.
