(She was also in Reindeer Games.) In the end, I found myself thinking quite a lot about this film well after I saw it, and I think a criticism of the “tween” market is precisely what Cody was going for.

She’s currently pigeonholed as a “tween,” which I’m still not entirely sure is a thing. The whole “young adult” marketing angle is aimed squarely at her, and like Gary, it seems like a creepy delivery mechanism for selling adulthood to those not yet ready for it. Being a grown-up doesn’t mean hitting a certain age at a certain time. It means becoming able to make decisions you can live with years down the road. Theron strikes me as a great choice for this role, but when it comes to proving that she can live with her own decisions. I have my doubts. She did, after all, star in Hancock.
