Especially the beautiful girl from west Africa Fataoumata, I was literally brought to tears when i saw the passion and the drive that beamed out her eyes. Definetly pushes me to swim toward my passion even more. Thanks to all the students in the film as well as the instructor for an amazing experience.

Moreover, Pressure Cooker shows that there are other avenues aside from sports that can lead to scholarships and a way out of an economically suffocated situation. That’s not a slight on sports at all; rather, there is so much emphasis placed on sports, that such a heavy focus often deters from academics. And, as Hoop Dreams — and the number of pro athletes who have stellar careers — proves, more often than not a college athlete will remain a “college” athlete as opposed to finding stardom. I think this documentary shows the need for a balance.

I am a culinary arts instructor and it is very nice to see that I am doing many of the same things that great instructor is doing for her students. I struggle with getting them involved in actively looking for scholarships. I am going to show this to my classes and hopefully it will help motivate them toward completing the applications. Great documentary.
